I came for Freedom – Uzbekistan

I came from Uzbekistan when it was still a part of Russia. I arrived in America in 1996. I came here for freedom. I was a nurse in Russia, but when I arrived here, I didn’t speak English so I had to go to school again. So I went to Touro college where I got a bachelor’s degree in business management and administration. My first job here was as a student intern. I had to do some filing, and prepare the student’s files. I worked there until I finished college. I was paid about $5 per hour. It was not much, but it helped me somehow to attend college and to pay for some books. But I also had two children, so it was not much.
